Legendary soprano Geraldine Farrar (1882-1967) sings Marguerite's aria "Ah! Je ris de me voir si belle en ce miroir" or the "Jewel Song" from Gounod's Faust. Recorded 1913. Unlike many other sopranos of her era Farrar's voice recorded very well, as you can hear in this example.

  • @MrCafiero a quote from michael scotts record of singing, not his statement,a quote he presented.

' a full rich soprano, lyric in its nature and flexibility, yet rather darkly coloured and with not a little of the dramatic quality...' . her information was put under the dramatic soprano section of his book.

  • I have had the pleasure of working with her niece Jordan Wentworth Farrar and she has a beautiful voice just like her aunt. Plus she's an amazing composer. I world premiered one of her operas in NYC December of last year.

  • She was my grandfather's cousin! Musical talent runs in our family, and my daughter has emerged as another Farrar family soprano! On YouTube, Amy Rae, O Mio Babbino Caro.

  • @hobo1975 "Cause she was a lyric"..what?

  • @MrCafiero cause she wasnt a lyric!

  • This is very beautifully sung. The opening trill and those runs are terrific! What happened to technique since then? So many don't/can't measure up to this. I'm going to have to aquire more of this woman's recordings.

  • Such a crystal clear, lovely voice. Just like a bell ringing on those high notes.

  • When music migrated to the colonies I'm glad Geraldine kept this alive and I'm sure she is watching us now/
