The newest addition as far as treatments in the cosmetic industry over the last few years has been toning and tightening. All of our laser procedures are done by aestheticians or RNs who have laser certification.

Treatments that are available now such as Thermage and gentle YAG for tightening and toning of the skin are major breakthroughs in our industry as far as the anti aging business goes because they are geared toward women who are at a stage in their life when they feel like they need a little bit of a lift they feel young and vibrant and very energetic but they feel like gravity has taken effect a little bit. And so these types of treatments are meant to work for women who are at that in-between stage in life.

Thermage is a radiofrequency device that creates a radio-frequency field that radiates through the skin and as it does that, the skin molecules move in concert with the radiofrequency movement. As they move you get tissue heating frictional heating. So its a way of using radiofrequency energy to get what is called volumetric heating of the dermis and the subcutaneous fat. When you heat collagen and those structures to the right temperature, it literally shrinks, sometimes by as much of a third of its length. So it lets you literally tighten the skin just by heating it to the right temperature.

The only way you can really reproduce the benefits of a facelift is with surgery. When I think of a facelift, thats something that I like to do under local anesthesia and we call it my local lift. Im proud to say that as far as I know Im the only cosmetic surgeon in the area [Minnesota] that is doing facelifts under local anesthesia.

I did not want to go under general anesthesia. Every time you do, you take a chance. I knew that it could be done under local. I had gone to another doctor and he wanted me to go under general anesthesia and I didnt want to do that. I had no qualms about doing it and when my friend told me about Dr. Carney, I thought, this is my man.
I like my results. One of the reasons why I did this is that every time I looked in a mirror or walked by a store window I would see this old person looking at me. Now when I look in the mirror, its like Im not really looking at a really old lady; Im just looking at a nice lady.

At 03:13 this is a completely different person (you can see it in comparing the ears)! Thermage can melt underlying fat, but if you dont wanna loose your underlying fat in your cheeks area ... just think about it.
