  • And I've heard from concert violinists that his perfection was such that there was no variation from one recording to another of the same piece! Exact same timing and emotion each time. You could play them together and they'd be perfectly in sync!

  • Really? There is so much difference betw/ his two Glazunovs, Tchaikovskys and Waltons and numerous other pieces - Heifetz was great and technichally brilliant, but other details vary.

  • In a just world, this would have 15,000,000 hits.

  • Haha, and maybe the world will finally understand classical music.

  • The one thumbs down vote was probably a miss-hit. Impossible not to like.

  • So much for JH being a mere technical virtuoso (not that cantabile playing doesn't require flawless technique). The sound is virile and intense while still heartfelt, and the phrasing is operatic and noble. In today's backward-minded conservatories this would pass as schmaltzy and sentimental. The 'cute little dimples' in phrasing, as Glenn Gould dismissively called them, are beautifully done here. A true lost art.

  • i have to play the flute version for S&E hope i get a one

  • beautiful music :)

  • this great violinist has been my idol since I was 8 years old. He still is today and it has been 40 years. Bravo maestro!

  • Btw the right translation of "Auf Flügeln des Gesanges" would be "On wings of song"...

beautiful playing never the less :)

  • His piece really moved me to tears. Heifetz is truly the epitome of perfection. Sigh, if only he were still alive...

  • Heavenly music and playing. TY.

  • @Musicchica313 I hate her as much as you do. But she has a degree in music and probably is doing what shes doing because the sheep we call the public are easily manipulated into shelling forth their money.
