The 1977 Seattle Sounders of the North American Soccer League (NASL) sprinted through the playoffs with wins over Vancouver Whitecaps (not shown). Minnesota Kicks and Los Angeles Aztecs to reach Soccer Bowl '77 against Pele, Beckenbauer, Chinaglia and the New York Cosmos.

Cheers from Portland, thanks for uploading this. It's nice to have NASL footage like this archived. You're welcome to come up here and lose any time! We'll see you here in July.

I was there too, and still have a couple of extra unused tickets for the match that a couple friends couldn't use. Our seats were in the temporary bleacher set up right on the field's far sideline, so in a way I got to be on the field with Pele, Beckenbauer, and Chinaglia, and all the great Sounders players as well. That Chursky blunder just about broke my heart, he'd played so well all year and then to have a brain freeze at that moment was just devastating. Thank you so much for sharing!

Yes I was there for Soccer Bowl 77 on that damp but exciting day in Portland with family and friends. The Lads were a real phenomena for the city of Seattle back then...a feeling in Seattle sports history that was one of a kind. What the video does not show is in the final minutes of the contest the Sounders pressing so hard to score that there was actually a shot that hit the right goal post ...as far as I can remember. Thanks for the great memories!!!
