The N71 road from Killarney to Kenmare initially twists and climbs through dense, stunted forests, with only occasional views out to the mountains and lakes of the area. However, after about 20 km, the road reaches an open area, with clear views out over a pastoral valley towards a high range of rounded hills. A convenient parking area provides a panoramic view, with the Upper Lake of Killarney in the foreground ---- the famous Lady's View. On a fine summer day, the early evening sunlight adds a soft golden glow to the hills, and the cobalt blue lake waters reflect the fair weather sky.
