Marvellous to see Gene on film with his classic 1940s big band playing one of his best arrangements and drum features 'Lover.' Here Krupa is at the peak of his powers, the drums sound great and can see his sticking technique in close up. Heavy or what. (No wonder Gene was John Bonham's favourite drummer when Bonzo was a kid). 'Leave us Leap' is another delight, one of the most joyful tunes of the Swing to Bop era complete with freeze beat but sans coda.
