A sample TV ad, designed using George Lakoff's theory of moral politics, intended to increase support for universal health care in the United States. The author of the ad, Dan Meegan, applied Lakoff's theory in two ways. First, the living room scene with family pictures was intended to activate the 'nation as family' metaphor; just as we care about our own family members, we care about our fellow Americans. Second, poor health is framed as a catastrophe. Because even (strict-father) conservatives support government programs that aid the victims of catastrophes, it is hoped that the successful framing of poor health as a catastrophe will force all Americans to reconsider the way health care should be delivered.

  • Although I would say that a person being denied health care on pre existing conditions is bad going for a universal hc plan isn't the way to go. Ppl in thse systms hve 2 wait long times sometimes for life saving treatment. UNV HC is good on paper but in real life it's a nightmare!

  • i thin kwe have it spot on. it works out best for poor people, and rich people can fuck off to their privatised healthcare.

  • In Britain all health care apart from the opticians, the dentists (which is part subsidised) and extremely expensive procedures are provided for free* by the NHS. The NHS is a completely goverment run company and is the only healthcare company**. Being the only company there is not much competition but goverments will try and make it as effecient as possible to gain favour with the voters.

*it is paid for with our taxes

**There are some private healthcare companies.

  • @Josephfuture can I ask you a few questions?

-Are people in the EU aware of how one's country's health care systems compare with others?

-Do companies compete? if so How?

-are companies encouraged (financially) to improve their services or remain competitive? if so how?

Thanks a million. You don't need to answer all of the questions as I said them, just give me an Idea how the system works there.

  • Please help support universal health care. LETS STOP THOSE GREEDY PRIVATE MOTHERFUCKERS!!!

please check my video: to hell with private health insurance.

  • Im british and it is

  • Your ignorance is glaring and shows your lack of empathy for

probably no one other than yourself. Take your bitterness and put it to good use in your community as a volunteer for your local food bank, soup kitchen or some other worthwhile endeaver. Your very soul is in grave danger. Life after death is forever, as in eternal.

  • It is not that easy Mr. A. The free market dicates choice, so you can just stick with one because it is too expensive. If you were born an unfortuate, your views would change, my friend!

  • sorry to but, natural selection. its a bitch
