What a brilliant trailer. Every Tom clip shows how exciting an actor he was back then.

FGS Tom Baker is still the definitive Doctor. Who cares what he did off-screen? I don't. I think all that off-screen nonsense that people go on about spoils the magic. I watch Doctor Who Coming Soon trailers to be immersed, transported to another world for a minute, with enough power to make me want to buy the actual DVD, not read this debate about Tom Baker's attitude off-screen. Please, go to a forum or something and spoil the magic for yourselves and I'll love Tom Baker for being The Doctor.

What's with the boy chorus? Why hasn't that schtick gotten old? Do people really hear that and think, "ohhh, ahhhh, epic!"?

Ah, old weird drwho, when it felt like you were the only one who knew about it, when it was Sherlock Holmes in space, when it wasn't trying to be anything other than itself... too bad no one had creative control so that it wouldn't end up going down in tv history as the worst tv show ever.

@63DW89A That's amazing about the autobiography! Thank you for that, I look forward to it. That's most interesting! I guess her success with the new series has snowballed to this. I guess if she made a set decision to stop acting than that accounts for the downturn after Who. A pity, I think it had prejudiced my ideas on her. She was good in SoD with Tom, yes the series was at the top with its horror style in 13 -14. I liked the 3 companions in 12. Yes, that was the golden era.

@jtaellio11 I'm a big Pertwee fan myself, and do agree that Lis/Jon were a great pair; I think Season 11 is right up there with Season 7 as Jon's best.
I think Lis handled Tom the best of anyone, & in the way they bounced off each other, made a great pairing that many consider the all-time best in DW.
Lis's autobiography is due out about April this year, and may shed much light on her decision to not pursue stardom after DW.
I personally would prefer privacy over stardom any day!

@63DW89A I think he was very eccentric, and often I preferred Jon Pertwee's 'showman' approach, which didn't get too deep. I was quite happy with Jon's performance, and I think Lis played off better with him . Tom was more domineering, and her acting lost its initial confidence and potential. As you said, perhaps she could have been a bigger star with the right dramatic role, but gave it up to look after her daughter. Or straight drama was better for her style that escapist fantasy.

@jtaellio11 I've heard/read all the T. Baker incidents you mentioned. Lis seems to have been able to keep Tom stable during her time with him. I've often suspected that Lis grew tired of the chore of keeping Tom stable, and that is why she chose to leave DW at the time she did. I'm basing that thought on commentaries. In commentaries with Lis around, Tom stays on topic. Without Lis, Tom wanders in bizarre directions. Lis's presence seems to stabilize Tom, for whatever reason!
I love Sarah's outfit in this story!
