this is native maya linux software running, not emu. installed in 10 minutes on my good'ol athlon XP 1800+ to give it a shoot ... so is kinda slowish but done the purpose. the same can be done for maya 2009.
- how to install it ? there is a nice guide at:
http://zardoz-technomage.es/blog/2007/11/187/
... the basic concept is to convert the original red-hat *.rpm package to *.deb which easily installs on ubuntu ...
... but if you also need the mental ray satellite is whole other storry. i not succeeded in the first try to get it up and run on ubuntu becoz of bash/dash issuez
- here`s the error:
"/autodesk/mentalraysat2008/bin/netsetup_satellite: 16: Bad substitution"
the solution:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash Answer 'No' when asked if you want it to be the default shell, so /bin/sh point to /bin/bash (at least until finished install) ... if there will be more interests i can make some detailed tutorial for all this stuff ...
happy rendering and modelling on ubuntu :)
