This is 1 of 22 remaining Hawker Sea Furies left flying in the world. It is also one of the only ones still using the original Bristol Centaurus 18A engines. The engine generated 2600HP, and used a unique sleeve valve design. It had a top speed of 464MPH. The Sea Fury came in at the tail end of WW2, and served into the 50's. And while it was considered to be the pinnacle of the propeller driven aircraft, it was soon passed up by jets of the era. This particular Sea Fury is a Mk50 that was purchased by Australia in 1951, and served until 1961.

  • is that o22? I love that airport!

  • Yes it is :)

  • Awesome! Love the smoke trails.

  • Yeah, to bad the video quality makes it hard to see them spinning.

  • At the start of the the vid it says 'RAAF Mk 50". I assume you mean Royal Auatralian Air Force (RAAF). The Sea Fury was, however, only operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Fleet Air Arm in Australia. Excellent video and a beautiful aircraft.

  • Yes, you are correct. The funny thing is I knew it was used in the navy (hence the folding wings), but for whatever reason I put airforce :P

  • Perfection.

  • They look like you've opened some bloody monstrous watch when you take them apart but what a marvelous engine and sound. Whispering power.

  • Nice...

  • The Royal Canadian Navy equipped Squadrons VF-870 and VF-871 with the Sea Fury. These Squadrons flew 75 Sea Furies from February, 1948 to April, 1957 operating from HMCS Magnificent. The RCN Sea Fury aircraft were replaced by the RCN's first jet fighter, the McDonnell F2H3 Banshee in 1957

  • Very nice.. a beautiful aircraft.. :)
