Many of these comments are rather disturbing. I would offer the view that the majority who are slinging charges of 'obscurantist postmodernism' 'jewish conspiracy' and even 'commies' have not read any works published by any of the proponents of The Frankfurt School. These charges are the worst kind of straw man set ups, and a refusal to engage the material properly says more about the obtuse characters posting these rather narrow, and pathetic comments - than it does about the Frankfurt School.

The problem is that masses of people do not demand the truth, the real art and the authentic. The reason is the truth and the real art is harder to understand compared to the specious. As such, people keep reading Twilight rather than the brother Karamazov, the magic mountain and etc. That is why in our world the best way to pick books becomes to avoid best-sellers. So I would say in capitalism the role of media become "manufacturing consent" rather than truth, art or wisdom.
