Blood 1-1 Cradle to Grave

A playthrough (with my own uninformed commentary) of the opening level of Blood by Monolith Productions.

I just got email from Good Old Games saying that Blood should be available starting April 22, 2010. http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/one_unit_whole_blood

IdolNinja from the PA forums adds:
"The canisters [at around 4:30] are an homage to Phantasm, where the tall man reanimated the dead and compressed them into canisters so they could work as a slave force on a planet with lower gravity. The funeral home level is also eerily familiar."

@maritimon You're definitely right in terms of the type of engine they use. They're both 2.5D. And I believe they both use the similar techniques to draw their environments. Doom's engine is id tech 1, developed by John Carmack and Blood uses the Build engine, by Ken Silverman.

I love the flare gun. The only game I can recall with similarly silly people on fire is Postal 2. :P

The comic FPS may well be an underserved genre.

Very true.

Although there are still games like Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, Blood... Sadly most of them are pre-'99.
