I've watched lots of these mock broadcasts and I find them weirdly exciting, so I thought I'd give it a whirl! I've tried to be realistic as in my opinion, some other people's attempts aren't very realistic.

As a former member of the ROC/UKWMO at the tail end of the Cold War, I can tell you if this were real in 2012, we'd be totally screwed. We would be seriously unprepared to deal with a nuclear threat nowadays as the all the infrastructure was dismantled in the early 90's because Russia was no longer deemed a threat. Even in my day it was not perfect, but at least some measures were put in place to try monitor blast and fallout, and try to save lives if possible. We may regret that decision.
