We are on our second Viking 42 inch side by Side Fridge - it is a Professional series Quiet Cool. Unfortunately, our units do not keep food temperature at safe level; this is defined under 40 degrees.
This is a video of our 2nd Viking 42 inch Side by Side Professional Series Fridge. The first one was removed and replaced by Viking as it did not keep the refrigerator at safe food temperatures.
This newest fridge arrived at the beginning of November. It has also been unable to get food to a safe food temperature (between 30 and 40). Our guages, including a mass guage have showed the temperatur to hover from a low of 42 to a high of 48. At these temperatures, food spoils quickly.
In addition, the freezer has now warmed up on this unit and is now so warm that the ice melted and ice cream turned to liquid.
The ice maker has been problamatic on both units. On the returned unit, the ice dispenser failed completely. On the 2nd unit, the crushed ice dispenser functioned, but would not dispense cubes. At this point, this does not matter as the freezer cannot sustain ice!
We are writing to Fred Carl from Viking Range Corporation - and their Board of Directors. We are also advising the Canadian distributor and the Ministry of Health.
We are requesting that they look into this to ensure that Viking products are capable of operating at safe temperatures.
We find it odd that we would have the only 2 units that cannot function below 40.
After repeated service calls (trust us, endless amount of time), we are concerned that the issue may be systemic.
We have the same model purchased in 2001. We have had the doors, ice maker, and "too warm" temperature problems. All of these are common problems. After multiple, multiple repairs, Viking is offering to let us buy a new one at a reduced cost. Ummmm.....

OMG, this is far too familiar!!! I am also waiting to hear from the Board of Viking. Our 48" version is 7 years old and we have had an insane # of problems since day 1. Yes, I know what you're thinking, why did I keep it. Well, I was naive enough to think we had most of the problems solved after a few months. I'm inspired to possibly make my own video.

Viking took the 2 refrigerators back as a mechanical replacement. We now have a Sub Zero fridge; to date, the Sub Zero seems a lot better.
I wrote the Board of Directors of Viking and asked to speak with the Chairman. I received a polite phone call back offering a credit for food spoilage - which we declined. I asked for Viking to reconsider and arrange for a phone call. We are still waiting for a follow up. They have yet to arrange for a phone call with an executive ...
