It's good to be here! How've you been?
Check my bags, boy! Where's my room?
I sit on the phone, that's my game,
Keep up the pressure all the way!

I don't want to beat about the bush
but none of us are getting any younger.
There's people out there who could take your place.
A more commercial view! A fresher face!

I need a shower, take a nap
I'll meet you in the bar, we must have a rap.
There's a lot on the line, a lot to say.
There's something I must tell you today.

You and I both know the score,
you can't go on like this forever.
So it's with regret that I tell you now
that from this moment on,
you're on your own!

I don't talk round corners, it's right between the eyes
If you're slow they'll run past you,
Stand tall, see them falling over.
I walk a straight line, it's right between the eyes.
Well show me the door, show me someone who'll do it better.

The drinks are on me, be my guest.
Smoke a cigar? Take the best.
Don't hedge your bets, we can make a deal,
you got it in your pocket, how do you feel?

So glad that's over, now you know,
but I'm only acting under orders.
And looking down on you from way up here.
You've got to sink or swim, get off the floor!

I don't talk round corners, it's right between the eyes
If you're slow they'll run past you,
Stand tall, see them falling over,
I walk a straight line, right between the eyes.
Well show me the door, show me someone who'll do it better.

  • first heard this when i was 13 years old. just turned 51 and still my all time favorite album. hard to find such well crafted emotionally uplifting and at the same time melancholy songs and such classy musicianship - not to mention the arrangements. songwriting at its best.

  • this is the track to play for naysayers of Phil Collin's drumming-especially the drum fill at 4:50. I had to listen to that 5 or 6 times when I first heard it. Blazing.

  • @bikerbuncle there must be some mistakes in your dates...this LP was edited in 1978...

  • @PFforever1 technically not quite true. was one of the greatest in rock'n'roll field for the 70's but technically has been surpassed in 90's. I am very sad many people don't know his side as a drummer. I also found he's a such a great guy, I know people who had worked with him and he's just an awesome person, kind and sincere.

  • What idiot dislikes this?

  • @muaddib878 You think so, i think it sounds great.

  • I love the cover to this album......

  • Killer track, wish the band liked it though. I know phil hates this song of course.

  • Great song; but the new remix has butchered it

  • @balddanny72 Phils always been an underrated drummer,i think cause of his solo albums where all people hear is him singing love songs.

I play songs like this to musicans who think metal double bass drummers are amazing, they aint heard Phil Collins yet!

  • Three guys, just jamming. Are you kidding me. Great album.
