FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The 7th Annual uNAVSA Conference is in Motion

March 22nd, 2010 The union of North American Vietnamese Student Associations (uNAVSA) is hosting its 7th annual conference. Each year the organization hopes to unite not only Vietnamese student associations across the nation, but partnerships with other major Asian American organizations in hopes of a stronger voice and representation in the community as a whole. By doing so uNAVSA puts together a Philanthropy project and a conference serving as a catalyst to motivate and inspire the Vietnamese Youth. Also to take initiative for change and awareness, ultimately building leadership skills that will last a life time while giving back to the community.

UNAVSA is partnering up with the current CPP beneficiary, the Vietnamese American Heritage Foundation (VAHF), as a way to give back to the community and increase youth involvement. This year the uNAVSA CPP campaign is led by Lisa Nguyen a Colorado native who now works and resides in New York City. The goal of raising funds for VAHF is to help jumpstart the 500 Oral History Project which is a collection of 500 inspirational personal stories of courageous Vietnamese Americans, archiving it, and publishing it as an anthology. A preservation of these stories is critical in understanding the culture as well as awareness of the many similar struggles the first generation has faced coming to North America. This project is the first of its kind and if successful will be the most accurate account of what happened during the largest immigration group of Vietnamese Americans.

The uNAVSA Board of Directors voted and chose Mid-Atantics very own Washington D.C. as the conference host site. The historic city also ties into this years chosen theme Uncommon Power for the Common Voice. Given the context of the city where change is apparent, Vietnamese Americans have the power to overcome challenges and stick together to make the voice stronger. The conference is a place where students and young professionals alike can join forces, network with one another, and built relationships that go beyond the time spent in Washington D.C.

The conference will take place from July 29th August 1st so mark those calendars! Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport hotel is the site in which all conference activities will be taking place. Also very close in proximity of the airport, so transportation will not be a difficult task to and from the conference. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Washington D.C., and there will be scheduled tours of the city. Please join uNAVSA and many others across the nation for four days of leadership building, networking and memories to last. Stay tune for more announcements pertaining to the conference!
