um could you possibly tell me how long your combustion chamber is and how long your barrel is, thanks in advance :)

Chamber is 4 inch PVC at 3 feet long, and barrel was 2 inch pvc at 5 feet long, but we cut it down to 4 feet to increase speed and distance.

Ahh.. I just finished my first cannon yesterday.

We shot it off for the first time today.

It worked pretty well.

1 question.

Why don't people use pure propane? It leaves no residue, and no smell. My dad and me couldnt figue it out. Other than the bottles being a little more clunky than a spray can, we couldnt think of why it wasnt more commonly used. I'm talking about the smaller torch or portable bbq sized bottles, not the big ones.

Any idea?

#1: PVC has a limit to how much pressure it can take, and using too much propane is a lot more likely to cause it to shatter.

#2: We did try it once, and it wouldnt fire, then after opening the chamber and clicking the ignite over 20 times it randomly decided to ignite, burning our friends face who was trying to make sure it was sparking.

#3: Propane moves in a gasses cloud, and it is unpredictable when that cloud will be near the igniter.

yeah if u have access to oxygen instead of using a ton of like sprays and get all ur shit goopy inside you can spray less spray inside and just put oxygen in with also because the oxygen will make it more comustable.

You should wrap it in carbon fiber two or three times . There was a guy that the bottom chamber exploded on him and blasted his hand and part of his leg!!

i know pneumatics are more powerful but hydrogen potato guns can generate upwards of 500psi(i use a modified scuba tank for my chamber) and no smelly fumes in the chamber now i ask you would yo like to wait 20 minutes for a shock pump or refridgerator pump to fill a pneumatic up or would you like to wait 2-3 seconds? p.s. USE ALLUMINUM OR STEEL

#1: Only 10-20psi is generated inside the chamber at any time. Too much fuel doesnt light, and not enough will just do a wimpy fire.

#2: I had the same sort of problem. It wouldnt light sometimes, but for some reason when we tested it sans potato, it woudl work almost every time.

#3: I see.. But don't the most popular of cannon propellants contain propane?
