Hi Brian, Mr Newton here. Glad to see you are still training. I haven't spoken to your dad in over 3 years. Hope all is going well. Give me a call some time at the school. Take care..

skills, you wouldn't throw a hook kick. But then again you wouldn't wind up for a backfist or pivot your foot exactly 180 degrees away. Yet you still learn it because it's all a part of the Martial Art. However, if your main purpose was to learn a strictly "practical combat system", you wouldn't technically be practicing a martial art at all, just a fighting system.

I would think that after you trained for so long, long enough to be able to defend yourself in a real situation you would be intelligent enough to discern that certain kicks aren't used in street fighting. I agree you should respect it for what it is. It is an art form as well as a fighting style. Of course in a life or death situation, unless you are blessed with some amazing

I would suggest supplementing your training with some aspect of ground fighting, as most fights end up on the ground. AMAA is located in Winston, and Kevin Pyles is an excellent Gracie student, and will give you great BJJ training, at an affordable rate.

I used to train with Michael Deese in Winston. I now train at American Ninjutsu, in High Point. I respect TKD for what it is, but it is by no means a practical combat system. For starters, if you ever threw a hook kick in a real life-or-death situation, you'd be a fool. And, I'm sure you'd say you wouldnt, however, you preform how you practice.

Thanks for the comment on my video. I like your video too; it's pretty cool! What style do you do? Does your Master alter the original traditional forms? I think so, because our forms are the original traditional forms set by General Choi.

we do the chang hun style so our forms should be from the same set with only a few minor differences. pretty cool.
