Want to hear a ferret squeak LOUD? The noise they make while eating this type of food proves they love it. Rabbit is their favorite.
Otter is the sable female and Hunter is the silver male. I got them started on whole prey by cutting up bits of rabbit meat (including the bone) into their wet Marshalls. They avoided the pieces of Rabbit until they accidentally ate a piece- then it was hard to get them to also eat kibble! I have given them Quail, Rabbit, Mice, & Duck. I don't recommend giving ferrets duck- they make the ferrets have a funny smell. I have yet to get an adult ferret that grew up on kibble to eat meat.

  • Lol, what a drama queen. That's funny stuff.

  • My ferret lived til 8 years old. We'd almost always fed her on a mix of kibble (made for ferrets) and chopped meat (no bones though) She was a pet and was allowed to have run of the loungeroom in mornings and evenings so we had to cut up her food or confine her :P I never heard her make a sound like that, except maybe once at the vet's. But then she was also always a lone ferret.

I don't think it would have been hard to get her to change over to an entirely meat diet though.

    Nice vid.

  • Awesome video! I loved it. I just got my 11 week old ferret to start eating raw meat, whole prey is next, I look forward to it.

  • they are SO cute!!!

  • Good! Thanks :) i just read the rest of your comment, lol! Mine were all kibble fed for a while, before transitioning them to raw. Now- they won't touch kibble! I'm also a mentor to help people get their ferrets on a raw diet! And one of them was 5 years old when transitioned ;)

  • @sinneadfert Of course its OK, I'm actually flattered :)

  • I hope it's ok, but I've put up a link to this video for those on my ferret forum who wonder about ferrets eating bone :)

My little marked DEW does exactly the same thing, lol!

  • Haha. "MINE, it's MINE. ALL MINE."

  • Lol! My ferrets fight like that over their mice.

  • My ferret was SO defensive over his food when he was a kit -- even toward me when I filled his food bowl. I can imagine fresh quail carcass would cause some ear-piercing ferret screams! It doesn't sound too loud in the video but gah, they're deafening, especially on tile floor. They will learn to share! Good job on supplementing Marshalls -- my ferret won't eat anything besides that stuff. Argh.
