http://www.coolmom.com || Babies are babies. My daughter didn't gravitate to pink till she was in pre-school. And while my son has a masculine cast to his face, he looks a lot like Vivien did at his age. Now, since he is an easier baby than Vivien, does that mean years from now she will be yelling she has to have a new dress for school while he quietly watches sports and belches on the couch? I'll have to wait and see.

But for now people say things like, "Oh, a son, boys LOVE their moms." My daughter loves me, thank you very much. Or the gal who said to me, "Wait till you have your boy. I'm so in love with my son." (She had two daughters.) What is this, Sophie's choice?

  • when i become a mom I want to have the same values as you when it comes to your kids. I just never felt comfortable with gender roles, and I believe that my son or daughter can like anything they want...but I will have to teach them resilience first...because sometimes not everyone agrees with what you like or who you are...unfortunately.

  • It starts as soon as it's perpetuated. If they're never taught otherwise, kids would probably grow up to like monster trucks -and- dresses. Sadly, society has instilled what is "okay" and "not okay" for boys and girls to like, so everyone will become a victim of this eventually, even if they have awesome parents like you. It's screwed up. [/rant]

  • @chillercm So you must be a homophobic christian fundamentalist. Homosexuality is a persons preference not something forced upon them by parents and peers. If you have any type of sense you should know that. Again a name is a name its idiotic for a employer to not hire someone because of their name that the indiviual has no control over.

  • @tra88 watch the popular documentary freakonomics and you will see that the majority of the time ur name affects ur job opportunities and by that i mean by having weird or made up name. im just saying u need to know where to draw the line and having ur boys only wear dresses and braiding their hair crosses that line. 99.999% of the world doesnt do that and for thousands of years hasnt!!!! that sort of behavior is irresponsible and experimentation!!

  • @chillercm But thats not what going on. The parents are letting the child choose which things interest them regardless of their sex, thats whats going on in canada. And what kind is idiotic statement is "giving ur babies genderless fucked up names like storm is wrong and irresponsible." ITS A NAME!!! It doesnt determine what kind of person they are. And if a employer doesnt hire someone on the basis of their name that employer should be tried for discrimination.

  • @tra88 thats not really what I mean, I mean having your baby boy grow out his hair and braid it like a girls is fucked up, and giving ur babies genderles fucked up names like storm is wrong and irresponsible. i mean some employers would think someone applying under the name storm is a joke. i think parents should set parameters with regards to at least giving their child some gender identity. allowing your child to follow their intrests is IMO totally different to whats going on in canada!

  • @chillercm Who are you to say whats normal and whats not? If someones son prefers tea partys over football let them be. Let the indiviual be free to choose what they like not set them in these predetermined brackets of what a boy should do or what a girl should like.

  • lol i hope u only do this till a certain age, its ur responsibility as parents to inform your kinds whats normal and whats not...but i think that thing going on in canada is a bit fucked up, raising ur boy as a girl and not teaching him thats its not normal is just wrong....

  • Meh

  • OMG GIRLS HATE THE COLOR PINK!!! :O (except for iris) but i love trucks!! :D (kinda lol)

  • I wish my mom was like you. :(
