Why knowledge will lose its value.

Hiroshi Tasaka is professor at the Tama University in Tokyo and also founder of SophiaBank, a global network think-tank. In his opinion, the biggest paradox of today's knowledge society is the fact that knowledge will actually lose value and wisdom management will be the really critical issue. In this video interview he explains why companies and organisations must open up to the web 2.0-triggered wisdom of the crowd, suggests to talk about "ego management" instead of human resource management and predicts the end of old-fashioned capitalism as we know it.

  • Wisdom of crowds is a dangerous concept. While the internet leads to more and faster innovations in the scientific and engineering community, it also has the same effect on pseudo-sciences, religious fanaticism and all sorts of manipulation.

It's not like a collective mind automatically is going to generate great ideas, it can/will also generate unimaginably stupid ideas.

  • Knowledge and Intelligence show you how to build the atom hydrogen nuclear bomb. Wisdom within tells you not to use it and the uselessness of such pursuits. I love you

  • @Mysteryskatin You feel alienated because you don't share the same interests as most people in your social environment. That's normal, and it's not your fault.

Try to find another social environment. We are social animals, we need people who we can communicate with on the same level.

  • @StrikaAmaru Well actually the subject is irrelevant as long as there is enough neuro-diversity in your "crowd". It's not because you are an educated person, or even an expert on a certain subject that you can offer the best solution to a certain problem.

A "crowd source" is often more intelligent than the smartest individual in that group. It's what we call a "super-system".

The problem is that sometimes it just isn't and then we call it "war", "genocide", "famine", or a "financial crisis".

  • An often ignored bit of "wisdom of the crowds" is that the members of the crowds must also be very well-educated in general and about the question you ask; if this isn't respected, _of course_ the result will be a pile of garbage.

  • @noocher84 Wisdom tells you you can make a nuclear plant with the same material, and help save the environment.

  • I find it hard to understand the significance of knowledge if you're not in a field that requires it.

For instance, I work for the DNR. I cut trees and mow grass. Of what use is knowledge to me? Yet I cannot help but be attracted by it, especially political philosophy and physics. Though the more I learn, the more alienated I feel.

For instance, when I realized I didn't believe in God, and that, in hindsight, I never really did. It was kind of depressing.

  • @noocher84 I thought wisdom says, "whoever builds it first will be safe from whoever else might have the same idea."

  • @noxure True, but on the internet all ideas are open to intelligible scrutiny, if an idea doesn't stand on it's own two feet it gets crushed down even more so than pre internet days. The truth comes through, it just takes a while for the crap to get funnelled away to a dank corner where the nutters can sit self obsessed and wanking over their ludicrous ideas like their imaginary friends

  • ) In short...I disagree.
