@MidgardKennels I completely agree. Even though its innately in their system to protect, they should still be trained for it from time to time. Its like...you take them on a walk daily, even though its in their system to go for a walk. Guarding is what these dogs should do, so great job testing the dog! I love this breed, so full of character so unique!

yeah... maybe you are right:) it make sense but then can't be like a German shepherds, all i know about it that mastiffs usually don't bark, they attack immediately when they need to defense :)

This breed of dog descended from the ancient Roman Molossian and was employed by the Roman legions as a dog of war. This breed is a national pride.

you dont train Mastinos for personal protection, they already have that in their blood, you only going to make it worst...., they attack without barking... they are different type of breed... they are a finest of a dogs...

@karinamaya17 There are a lot of misconceptions about mastiffs. Any good guard dog mastiff or not should be willing to bite to protect without training. Training is like martial arts for dogs though, it shouldn't have teach them to bite, just where, when and how to bite best. It also allows you to teach the dog commands to bite and to release. A naturally aggressive dog like Achilles without training is like gun that shoots based on it's judgment and can't be turned off.

I also work my dogs to prove they will take the pressure. Most Neos have defense drive, so they bark at strangers, growl, etc. Most of those lack the courage, athleticism or nerves to really fight a man. That's why they have to be tested in bitework, to prove they aren't just bluffing. Mastiffs should be bred like any other working breeds and tested in their working ability each generation before breeding. That is the only way to establish a working line, and that's what my program is about.

@MidgardKennels I agree on that with you! I really like Cinciripini's Mastino, check them on youtube, they are awesome looking dogs cmastini.com they breed with all quality of the dog. lets say someone brakes in the house how the trained dog would react? what would he do first? you have video of that? Tnx

@karinamaya17 I checked out cmastini, we have very different perspectives on what makes a good neo. Their neos look like the typical ruined show neos. I only see freakish distortion and no work. Achilles would never win at a dog show because he's too tight and fit and he'd attack the first judge who tried to touch him.
I don't have video of in home scenarios, but a dog trained in bitework would do what he was trained for, bite. So would a good untrained dog though maybe not as skillfully

Can you recommend a breeder in Europe and preferably the UK?
ObsessedWithSerpents 1 month ago
@ObsessedWithSerpents I'm afraid I don't know any working Neo or Bandog breeders in the UK. Working breeders there are at a severe disadvantage due to BSL. The breeding and sale of lot of working breeds are outlawed in the UK along with their crosses, and any dog that looks like it might be one of them or a cross. We're fighting against similar laws being passed here in the US, hopefully they never will. It's such a travesty for personal freedom and working dogs.
