@haunteddrifter lol a few actually are, i just use the weapons every day and have devoyed a portion of my life to european martial arts
-
wow........people here act as if they make them and are medieval weapons experts.
-
Odd..i have the same sword as Dan....
-
Ehhhh what they are saying about the sword is completely misconstrued. As a forger that I once met said "Any sword is created to function in its given field" he also said that "making shitty weapons to people of an age where stabbing someone is only frowned upon is a bad idea"
The viking sword was made function with a heavier blade, not because of idiotic smiths.

3:18 the show has to make him a steryotypical American?
-
He seem to have forgotten the part where the vikings invented laminate steel before the Japanese. Or that their swords rarely weighed more than 2.5lbs.
And he apparently has no idea, that when you ad a few extra cm. of steel to the edge (to blunt it for non lethal use), it also ads weight. Given that short hilt and small pommel, most reenactment versions of these swords, have nowhere near decent balance. And they obviously didn't want to pay for the good quality ones, that actually do.

I am a history major in graduate school, and I know that this show is about as real and as relevant to combat as WWE. That being said, I still enjoy it, and it is still fun to watch.
Just don't take it for truth, and you'll be fine. It's not a good show historically, but it is very easy to be entertained by and it is very easy to enjoy.

@zdkezios yeah this show is more for entertainment than actual facts
-
3:20. your all weak fucks
-
Oh well, at least they tried.
whoa whoa whoa hold the fuck up. viking swords with pattern welding were very light (only about 3 pounds) and were of extremely HIGH quality steel for the time. it was only when spanish steel was introduced that pattern welded blades became obsolete. they fucked this one up

@dvashnik Well, if you know a little about swords you have to admit that there are many inaccuracies in this show. Alone the use of the nonhistorical term ''Broadsword'' or how he says that early swords were badly balanced - There is no good or bad balance. Earlier swords of the mail armour period where more for slashing and therefore had a bladebalance whereas later weapons where more thrustoriented and give the more pleasant feeling of a hiltbalanced sword. But still, an entertaining show.
