I read the cut version, but it was fantastic. Nick Andros was the best character in the whole book. I did always think The Rat Man was kind of cool though...lol...

Yeah, I personally think he went to Flagg out of fear, at least at first. When he was convinced of the dark man's power, the fear intermingled with adoration and true loyalty, but he was loyal because he was mislead to believe Flagg really did care about him and didn't have an agenda. However, Trash wasn't necessarily an 'evil' guy. He was perhaps a pitiful guy, a sad guy, a wronged guy, and an ignorant guy, but not an evil guy.
