I'm an Engineer for the electrical distribution industry, and what you have quoted that power lines will be destroyed is utter nonsense. The grid network in England is designed to cope with extreme power surges, though various surge protectors, which require no electronics or machinery to operate. The worst scenario with the power grid, is a blackout, this may last for seconds or hours. Anyway which way it will be more of an inconvenience than a disaster

@Rapierfighter This isn't what he's talking about! This is where the sun spits stuff out far enough where it can literally put out our national power grids across the earth. This isn't where the sun is blocked for just 8 minutes, this is totally different.

@scooba88 But you can't protect the actual power lines when they get burnt. If the flare is big enough, as he said, it will literally burn the power lines, like it burnt the telegraph lines back in the 18th century.

@Rapierfighter No, solar eclipses do not last 8 minutes. I mean total eclipses. More like 6 minutes max. In Australia the end of the world is more feared. Not government secrets.

@TheodoreKColdiron I live in Norway, I'll just chop down some of the trees in the forests we own, make firewood to burn in our fireplace, go fishing with my row boat. Seriously, it might take years to fix all the electrical installations. But seriously, it will take weeks to fix the most basic things. I'm sure that large generators can be protected from solar flares. We have something called magnetic shields, which is a iron-nickle alloy.

So yes, you might succeed. & I suggest you include a can opener.But try to discount as mostly unreal nonses what you see in Holywood movies.Especially Silvester Stalone type crap. Still, I expect you might have some secret super powers. I've decided mine aren't going to work. I'll probably decide to die so others live. You might have to be food 4 the kids.
