( http://wakeup2thelies.com ) see related story here http://bit.ly/shKSGj Back in 1990 nine years before the introduction of the Euro, the then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher warned that a single currency would be used to end parliamentary democracy in Europe and would create a 'Federal Europe' by the back door

Transcript:

Mr. Alan Beith (Berwick-upon-Tweed): Will the Prime Minister tell us whether she intends to continue her personal fight against a single currency and an independent central bank when she leaves office?

Mr. Dennis Skinner (Bolsover): No. She is going to be the governor. [Laughter.]

The Prime Minister: What a good idea. I hadn't thought it. But if I were, there would be no European central bank accountable to no one, least of all to national Parliament. Because the point of that kind of European central bank is no democracy, taking powers away from every single Parliament, and being able to have a single currency, a monetary policy and interest rates which takes all political powers away from us. As my right hon. Friend (Mr. Lawson ) said in his first speech after the proposal of a single currency, a single currency is about the politics of Europe, it is about a federal Europe by the back door. So I shall consider the proposal of the hon. Member for Bolsover (Mr. Skinner ). Now where were we? I am enjoying this.

Mr. Michael Carttiss (Great Yarmouth) You can wipe the floor with these people.
-----------------------------------------

How right she was! 21 years after this brilliant speech, Greece has had an unelected Prime Minister installed because of the euro crisis. Italy has also had an unelected Prime Minister installed, who then appointed an entire government cabinet without a single elected politician because of the euro crisis.

  • Thatcher was right!..

  • @FadeToBlack888 What about Walpole?

  • @STOPTHEEU i wouldnt dream of comparing post war PMs to ones pre 1914, mind you it is a bit strange nobody can name any prime ministers before david lloyd george despite those years being this country's greatest, i dont think queen vic had that great a role :S

  • @FadeToBlack888 I think we may have to agree to disagree. After the war ended he lost his touch, lost the GE the Clement Attlee and went on to write his books. However he came back and was re-elected PM in 1951. I wouldn't say he was rubbish at all! He was getting old and tired.

Thatcher was a great PM but I still say Churchill's the best we ever had. There again we are only looking at leaders post world war 1 really. Wouldn't you agree?

  • @STOPTHEEU churchill was lucky to have been prime minister during WWII. he was a rubbish peacetime prime minister as well. greatest leader? yes, greatest prime minister however was maggie.

  • I had no idea about this speach from the Iron lady. Im from Greece .. At the end she was not just a leader to UK not just a person that will stay in history but also a prophet. Tomorrow night we are waiting what our government decision they will take for our future and the future of our children and just we have the big bosses from EU tell us... you have to do as we say... other whise you will suffer and we dont take no as an answer.. is this democrasy?? They tell us to go work for 450 salary!!

  • @STOPTHEEU Yes it's true. There are far too many lefties in this country. I still think stay in the EU but use every influence we have to revert it back to the common market and not a huge encroaching social dictatorship.

  • The best Prime minister we had par Churchill.

  • @N330AA You've hit the nail right on the head there. The Tories have gradually moved further and further to the left ever since she left number 10. Today they have moved so far that the only option is the UKIP option.

  • Thanks for this
