More fun and laughs from 1996 plus some serious and sad news in Israel. At 6:36 onward the chap behind George looks very much like a white haired Raymond Francis of 'No hidding place' fame!

  • Israel illegally invaded and occupied Lebanon. The Lebanese have a legal right to protect their territory and fight aggression against their country.

  • @jewshmu It's pretty ignorant to claim any criticism of Israel as being Anti-Semitic. And Israel has a habit of committing human rights abuses.

  • @OzzyFan87 No because Israel is an occupation, that's like validating the use of violence against the Taliban in Afghanistan as self-defense because they attack American soldiers, at the end of the day, those soldiers occupy the country against the will of its people, so what can they expect? It's not self-defense

  • @dezboss He was actually my MP at one point - Glasgow Hillhead- Which is, in fact, the Glasgow University constituency.... You really wouldn't expect him to go easy on a bunch of Oxford students now, would you? Besides the term "Gorgeous George" no doubt refers to his narcissism ... a fairly common trait among politicians...

  • @IlRezzonico Interestingly Margaret Ewing seemed to have a bit of a shine for him...

  • Rare appearance by Simon Hughes - he's usually out bumming on Hampstead Heath.

  • @dezboss No problem. He is an interesting character, that is for sure. I have friends who think he can do no wrong, and others who think he is an unprincipled charlatan. He certainly divides opinion, and as you allude to in your comments, his presentation of issues is often unpleasant and somehow uncomfortable. He always seems to put himself into the issue, so that you feel it is as much about him as what he is talking about but that is only my opinion!

  • @1gladdis I see, I never knew anything about that. Interesting, thanks mate.

  • @dezboss If you read about his early career in Scotland you will get my drift. There is a good book called Gorgeous George by David Morley. I know politics is a dirty business and he has not been convicted of any wrong-doing. Personally I don't know what to make of him. It is good to have mavericks in politics not beholden to the party machine but his connections with Middle East tyrants sit uneasily alongside his claims to be a crusader for social justice and freedom from oppression.

  • @mellowNdark That's true, I heard from Oxford students about the way he spoke to them at the Oxford Union and quite frankly I'm suprised none of them thumped him.

Whatever Galloway is talking about, even if he's talking about something sensible, he always puts it in such a vicious way it just makes me want to go and do precisely the opposite of what he's talking about.

  • @1gladdis How do you mean?
