I found this digitised footage lying around on a back-up disc and thought that it may be worth cleaning up and uploading.
Most of the footage is 'on-board' but has some interesting bits and pieces nonetheless as the train approaches most of the stations en route. And if memory serves this was the first time that I had seen, what was known locally in Swindon, as The Crystal Palace - the steel shed which was transferred piece by piece from the Swindon Works to Williton.
I'm guessing that it's 7820 'Dinmore Manor' hauling the outward from Bishops Lydeard as 7828 'Odney Manor' is on shed at Minehead. The return trip is clearing being hauled by 2-6-2T 4160 in a rather confusing looking British Railways livery (loco numbers are painted on each buffer beam).
Please enjoy.

  • Thank you for posting this. It is interesting 'historical' footage. John.

  • @yeojohn Many thanks John.

  • A lovely piece of nostalgia Nigel, there have been many changes since this was shot.....very enjoyable.....Bob

  • @robmasterman Many thanks Bob. You're spot on about the changes - I noticed from you most recent WSR clip that the footbridge is now installed between the two platforms at Williton (just goes to show how much attention that I've given the WSR recently - very embarrassing). And Williton diesel depot is now chocka with all manner of classes.

  • @Lattonwood Many thanks and especially for clarifying 4160's livery - I should have researched this before compiling my notes. 5029 does carry, as you've mentioned, a similar livery and it certainly is one from outside of the preferred preservation choice of livery over the last 40 years or so.

  • Nice compilation! How are you then? Not seen any of your videos for a while

  • @itfcsam Sam, I'm good, many thanks, and yourself? Many thanks for your comment. I've not been lineside since the beginning of July and was hoping to get a glimpse of the 'Help for Heroes' tour yesterday but it appeared to have been cancelled. If the weather and light is favourable next Wednesday then I may take a chance to capture Tornado along the Berks and Hants.

  • Enjoyed the video. Re 4160; she's painted in very early post-nationalisation, which is basicallt the Group livery with British Railways spelt out before the introduction of the coat of arms. I'm not sure if any small locos actually carried this but Nunney Castle is currently finished the same.

  • @churchward82c Nice, I am good thanks too. Ah thats a shame, I should be out for Tornado's return :). Haven't actually seen tornado in ages, so should be nice
