Beyond the rhetoric and the finger pointing are the stories of people whose lives are about to be changed. This short film, produced by Joe York and the UM Media and Documentary Projects Center, is part of our larger project with the Southern Foodways Alliance.

  • This is my hometown too. My family has been there for a long time too.

  • this is my hometown... my family has been there in bayou la bater for hundreds of years we have a house hold name bosarge....I miss the bayou so much

  • I keep wondering if I'm going to be telling the next generation what it used to be like going down to Bayou la Batre to see the shrimp boats, the same way my parents tell me about what Mobile was like during WWII with the population boom and all the now demolished war apartments. Life here may never be the same.
