  • Im a gun happy, Copenhagen chewin', nails tough cowboy from AZ and somehow everytime I listen to this I get some of that wierd salty wet stuff come from my eye. Marty Robbins is a great songwriter in Louis La'moore style. Love it!..... I mean... its dang right!

  • One of the best songs ever - Marty Robbins wrote it, and made such a wonderful recording. Every time this song would come on the radio, I would pull over, stop the car, and just listen to it. Now I have it on my own mp3 - and on youtube, thanks to this great post! Thank you!

  • @RobertJeffreyMiller I believe you are correct. I remember listening to this when I was younger and thought it was longer than this song. Very good catch!

  • This version is missing the verse after he shoots the "handsome young stranger": "Just for a moment I stood there in silence, shocked by the foul evil deed I had done. Many thoughts ran through my mind as I stood there, I had but one choice and that was to run."

  • Whenever I think of a country singer, Marty Robbins always come into mind. I just think that this is a very perfect song, especially on this original piece. The singer, the accompaniment, the guitar solo, strumming and the harmoniser were simply gorgeous. It is very complete and you just can't do better than that, splendid!

  • after i came back from nam i worked at a job instigler i lived with my grand perants for a while after work i would lay in mybed and listen to him and a lot of other country music and i loved it all i thought country was the greatest and still do until lately i have seen men killed in combat but the crulest thing i ever saw was not done in the heat of battle but by two doctors working in one of the largest hospitals in tulsa for more info please see[ msbones1950] a slow death or a waiting grave
