@cigardawg - Hmmmm. true in that is is God's Holy Spirit that changes us, but how does God operate? Through mankind. He doesn't need us to help Him, but He chooses us to share His glory in spreading His Word to all mankind. And by reaching out to the lost, we spread His Message... and by spreading His Message, we spread the Holy Spirit. So, Andy Stanley is not off here; he's right on. We CAN change our culture through the Holy Spirit.

At the same time, Jesus said we are to be the "salt of the earth". Does salt have an impact on what it is applied? Absolutely! Of course the salt cannot apply itself on anything, it is the cook who knows where to put salt. But salt has an undeniable impact, and so us Christians should have an impact on the world.

Andy Stanley swings and misses! It is not "The Church" that changes culture or anything else. It is the Holy Spirit that changes us all.
Andy is so focused on building his church, he is missing the Kingdom.

Sounds good ,but has the gospel really impacted that culture??
Try going to that city and preaching the gospel of grace alone outside of Roman Catholicism and see how long you last.
Maddona wears a cross,does this mean the gospel has impacted her ??
Did Andy preach the gospel there or did he see a cross at the Coliseum and figure everyone here must be saved???
Don't make the mistake of believing that symbols equal substance.
Andy may rock...but lets do some objective thinking people!

Rome speaks of Roamn Catholocism. A works based system. God has given His means of impacting the culture and that's by preaching the gospel. Plain and simple.
