Just to prove that you can get Moonshell 2 & YSMenu (with commercial ROM loading) running on an Acekard 2i

The only problem is that this only works with EITHER Moonshell beta 5 or older with the latest Acekard Firmware OR you can use the Latest Moonshell2 (v2.02) but with an OLDER Acekard firmware

Full Details of How to do it are at http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=163663

  • Question, Can the DSI System run Nds And Gba roms without the use of a flash cart?

  • @ar75000 A DSi does not have a 'slot-2' (the type of slot for a GBA game cartridge) so it is unable to play GBA games, even with a Flashcard UNLESS you by a flashcard called a 'Supercard DSTwo'

This card has the ability to play GBA game from a Slot-1 (a NDS game slot) but only through 'emulation', so it's not exactly perfect

As for playing 'NDS' files - virtually ANY slot-1 Flashcard can play these type of files

  • What is moonshell ?

  • MoonShell is a homebrew (home made) multimedia player for Nintendo DS (Lite) consoles.

It's capable of playing Music, video (after some converting) & can be used as a basic text viewer.

One thing it cannot do it run commercial ROM (ie games) - hence the reason for using 'ysmenu' (another 'homebrew' software) with it

  • heard using this combo is dangerous and brick your acekard 2i

  • You heard correctly - I have had no trouble & a few replies to my thread (See description for details) also state there has been no problems - but like any software that NOT developed for a particular hardware setup (YSMenu is developed for DSTT & not for Ak2) there is a risk

  • a rom is a BACK UP of a original game a security copy

  • Thanks

  • A 'Commercial ROM' is a copy (usually a pirate version) of a game cartridge that's been brought from a shop.

It's a bit of a 'grey area' but it's believed that you are allowed to have a copy of a cartridge IF you own the actual cartridge itself

'Homebrew' is software developed by amateur programmers to add extra features to a game system - usually a 'flashcard' is required to run such programs

  • When I made the video I believe it was a 2Gb Sandisk

I haven't tried it with anything larger as

    a) I haven't got a larger card

    b) The card broke & I don't have it anymore

Since the AK2i claims to support SDHC cards - I can't see why you can't use anything larger
