Metal is actually pretty relaxed. You can dress however you want. My first band were long haired and influenced by heavier late 80's/early 90's stuff but we dressed all in colored shirts and normal jeans to try to give it a weird proggy psychedelic thing, I guess.

in its pure state it can be refined molten into a awesome thing
but it can be used in alloys too and still sound correct
