@maxruth How sad. This isn't the 1st time I've heard of otters killing swans. Yet people think swans have no predators. I bet the cygnets, at least, were born right there in Nanoose Bay?

Hey that's awesome, I didn't know we had any black swans here in Canada, and these are even in my province of BC! I love the "squeak" they make

I understand that the cygnets ( born on the golf course) were later sold. Fairwinds golf course only harbours white swans now.

I believe the black swans were imported or otherwise acquired (from a breeder?). I was away from Nanoose Bay for 5 years and when I returned none remained. One of the adults for sure was killed by a sea otter.

Fairwinds Golf and Country Club, Nanoose Bay, BC Canada. They own the pond at the rear of #2 green. Be careful. They need their space and can be nasty. When angered they have fearsome-looking eyes. Several years ago, the cob (male) ran after my spouse, pecking at her and made her fall backwards. She fractured her wrist in several places.
