Read up on your Acts and Legislation, they can even park on the footpath if they want. Reason being, if an urgent job comes up they have to be able to get to their vehicle fast. So even if they are parked in a no stopping getting lunch, they have to leave their lunch and run to their car. Most other professions dont require you to interupt your lunch etc every day. In this case a job. I think the main thing is this guy should mind his own business in regards to police business.

To all the people saying that we should just keep our mouths shut and never question the cops on any matter, you're fools. All this man wanted was an answer to why these guys were double parked (fair enough), and they could have explained the Australian Road Rules to him. Instead, look at what happened. I'm thinking that cops think they can get away with this shit because people don't question them enough. The cops acted like dickheads and you guys are Un-Australian for not supporting this man.

@stanleylipshits The point isn't whether Australian Road Rules apply to the police, Peter (and people of all walks of life) should have every right to ask the cops any questions, including why they were double parked and expect a level-headed and intelligent response from them. The point is that when a civilian questioned the Police they beat him.

i own a security firm that operates in the area. I can agree that certain police officers in NSW are disgracefull cowards. They defame the uniform and need to be removed from service. You are right mate, section 61 of the crimes act 1900. It is common assault. There was no lawful reason to touch you. As a former NSW police officer, you should be aware that making a complaint is a dangerous thing. Good luck, i think the commisioner should issue a 181D for behaviour such as this.

This story sounds very familiar as my brother was threatened by the police when he went to ask why their RBT unit was blocking the driveway to our business (again). To add insult to injury, the cops stayed blocking the drive for hours and when my Mother went down to the police station to complain about the RBT and how the officer treated my brother, the police at the station actually threatened my mother with arrest!
It's outrageous the way the Port Macquarie police behave and I do sympathize.
