NTG2 and NTG3 in a small space (unfinished closet with insulated walls). The standing waves and small space make the two mics sound closer in quality then they really are. I was hoping the closet with exposed insulation would be more like a sound booth, but well, not so much.

  • some how i dont think 1/4" is going to make too much difference :o) great test though, and it shows that if your on a tight budget the NTG 2 is worth every penny, but if you have the extra money go for the NTG 3,if you like Rode's sound that is as I know many going for the more expensive mic's would go for an ME66/K6 combo...many other mic's are are just as good it depends on the sound your looking for and how much you have to spend.

  • @redeyesinthedark I gotta' say, that if you want to compare the me66 to the NTG2, I can understand that comparison... and you get more sound for a lot less money. I certainly hope you wouldn't compare the NTG3 and the me66!.. unless of course you'd compare the me66 and 416... and in that case, well... if you think those sound close, save your money. Don't buy any mics :-) Hire a sound guy.

  • the NTG-3 is more sensitive to higher frequencies and picks up more direct sound, the NTG-2 seems to block out background noise better than the NTG3 but it picks up the reverb/sound of room along with the direct signal.

  • This is great. Thank you. I love how you set this up and measured

  • @dennisonearth they are both good for there price, would you have any recommendations on mics with less harshness in the sound at a relatively cheap price?

Don't forget though, you can edit the sound to soften it ;)

  • The tg2 sounded slightly better

  • They sound very similar, but obviously the 3 is a little louder. But both are kinda harsh.

    thanks

  • Just ordered the ntg3 from you guys. Can't wait to get it :)

  • @OceanCold what you wanna hear? the ntg2 is an ok mic, i use it aswell. the 3 ofc is alot better, but you can only tell if you hear em LIVE and UNCOMPRESSED, on youtube its all mp3 - crappy sound with both

  • I want to buy the NTG-2 for video film making. Any thoughts or suggestions?
