Canada Day 2009, driving by Mandarin Restaurant, an all you can eat chinese buffet that was giving out free food between 12:00PM to 8:00PM to all Canadian Citizens with proof of passport/birth certificate.

These people are insane - if I worked for 5 hours I would earn almost $150. Even the dinner buffet at Mandarin is only $24.95 or something! I am sure that none of these people is so poor and desperate that they NEED to line up for food!

To get the meal you had to prove Canadian citizenship so now some people are calling that a human rights violation - how is a free meal a human right? Go to a country where people really DO need to line up for food and see what a real human rights are all about!

I agree, and even if you didn't make $30/hour, the provinces minimum wage multiplied by the average wait time of 6.5 hours and you could have fed two people on one person work. I just think it's sad that Mandarin did this, and where was Tim Hortons? It should have been free coffee and donut day yesterday.

Line up for 6 hr for $10 worth of food? Why don't ppl work min wage for 1 hr and get the same food??

This is proof here that Canada probably has very little patriotism or culture.

I hear an average 5 hour wait. If you earn the provincial minumum wage of $9.50 per hour, that is a gross of $47.50. If it is the lunch buffet pricing of $12.00 you would need to be a single-income minimum-wage family of 4 to make that economy work. I know it doesn't work EXACTLY like that, but get a bucket from KFC and spend 5 hours in the park for goodness sake! That would be a better way to spend Canada Day as a family! Gosh!
