@garrisonskunk According to IMDb, this was a one-hour pilot for a proposed series, produced by Paramount for CBS television. The effects footage was lifted from the 1955 George Pal film "The Conquest of Space."
Lots of familiar names on the credits, including director Joe Pevney, who directed several original Star Trek episodes and the Lon Chaney biopic "Man of a Thousand Faces" starring James Cagney.
The first movies-for-TV were made by Universal Pictures for NBC in the mid-1960s.

Is this worth watching? I noticed a lot of GREAT TV character actors in the cast!

Man, I want to make a "Get Smart" reference, but can't think of one that fits. :)
I didn't know they made black and white TV-Movies, I thought those started in the early 70s when most of the network shows were being made in color.

Well this originally was an unsold TV Pilot; but now it's considered a TV Movie.
