Just before he is about to be shot and killed in cold-blood by William Munny (Clint Eastwood) in the film, "Unforgiven," the Sheriff (Gene Hackman), another violent and brutal man, says, "I don't deserve this,...to die like this. I was building a house." In the midst of a great modern western, certain troubling questions are presented. Is there truly a difference between "good" violent men and "bad" ones, or will they all in up in "hell" together? Can the "unforgiven" find any sort of redemption through violence and brutality. Strange paradoxes exist in the lives of such people and the world they have created. The film, "Unforgiven," is truly great for its story, directing and acting as it deglamourizes violence in a film genre known for doing the opposite.

  • Note to self: Don't ever decorate my saloons with Clint Eastwood's friends.

  • "You just shot an unarmed man."

"Well he should have armed himself before he decorated his saloon with my friend."

    Classic.

  • @LTDANMAN44 sometimes labeled the "anti-western", it seems fitting that unforgiven is the western to end all westerns. It's tough to top clint eastwoods character and his vision as a director-- not to mention his unparalleled experience working within the genre. while there have been a few other decent westerns since, nothing comes close to matching unforgiven. And until someone figures out some fresh way to reshape the genre, I doubt any new film will match it.

  • My beard grew instantly after watching this.

  • 9:08 always sends a chill down my spine. Scary.

  • @jbeddome1 i was just thinking the same about whiskey, is like, when he drinks, it sweep all the blood from his hands. Then u can remember that Munny said that he used to be drunk the whole time of his young and crazy years. Awesome

  • 19 ppl are The Ducks of Death.

  • @pinz2022 I can't agree. Munny, like many, wanted retribution whereby those he killed knew why they were being killed, something like Dexter.

  • @keith14452

I dunno. If William Munny were acting in character, he would have come in shooting. He would not have given his enemies a chance to even look at him.

  • "Any man don't wanna get killed, better clear on out the back". I would have been haulin ass just like those guys! A movie line for the books! Great Movie!!!

  • ".. I'll see you in Hell.. ~ .. Yeah" Takes a Bad Ass to be prepared to Meet someone in Hell, Knowing you going there anyway.. Clint Eastwood man, Clint Fuckin' Eastwood.
