What is the Food Bank?
The Bonner Community Food Bank is a privately owned organization funded by donations and grants. The food Bank receives no county, state or federal funds. The Food Bank is primarily a food resource for low-income families, disabled individuals, children and seniors to receive a 'helping hand' in a time of emergency. All resources at the food bank are free with the hope that when an individual sees the opportunity, he/she will help someone in return for the help they received. Boxes are for emergencies only and are not meant to be a 'new grocery store' on the block. Approximately 3,000 clients each month receive assistance from the Food Bank in one form or another. Public support is needed and appreciated.
Who is Eligible?
Bonner Community Food Bank services cover all of Bonner County, which consists of 1,219,700 square acres. Bonner County's low-income residents will always be with us. The Food Bank endeavors to assist them where needed. Nearly 50% of the county's employment is in services or sales related occupations, which in general, pay $14,000 or less annually. The county suffers from what is known as "resort housing syndrome". Workers often cannot afford housing where they are employed. The primary industry in the county has changed from timber to tourism, creating a significant drop in area wages. The Bonner Community Food Bank was organized as a resource to service the disabled, seniors, and the working families with small children.
