Faith has intruded into education like never before. In America schools are fighting to keep evolution in their science curriculum while others are fighting to keep the religious movement called creationism out.

This is not only a fight in the United States. In Alberta the government funds up to 70% of some Christian fundamentalist schools. In Ontario catholic schools funded by all taxpayers frequently deny admission to non-Catholic students. In Quebec, the new faith and ethics course denies equal time to secular ethical worldviews like humanism.

Dr. PZ Myers has been a longtime critic of intelligent design and has written extensively on the topic on his popular blog http://www.scienceblogs.com/pharyngula . Earlier this year the Catholic League asked the University of Minnesota to take legal action against Myers after he publicly criticized those who had sent death threats and hate mail to a young man who took a communion wafer back to his seat and didn't consume it as expected.

Dr. Myers has shown frequent contempt for religion on his blog. He once ripped out pages of the Q'uran and threw them in the garbage with old coffee grinds and banana peels. His university dismissed the call for action by stating that their faculty is allowed to express themselves however they see fit.

Dr. Paul Z Myers, PhD is a professor of biology at The University of Minnesota, Morris campus. He works with zebra fish in the department of evolutionary developmental biology. His blog, Pharyngula is the most widely read science and atheism blog on the Internet. He is a self-avowed godless liberal and as such is one of the most vocal skeptics on all forms of religion, pseudoscience and superstition.

  • Good talk. Basically with intellectual discussion, religion will fall.

  • I agree with PZ Myers - though I am mournful of that fact that this day in age, the poetic use of "God" is cast aside. I hope one day we can use a statement like Einstein's "God does not play dice with the universe" for its poetry without fear of being quote-mined or have our position misrepresented in any way.

  • @williamcardno I like to say "Holy fuck". For me that says it all and in the right situations has its own poetry :-)

  • @Masonictoaster9 You continue to prove that your a fucking moron. Evolution has been around for 150 years about. Not one scientist has been able to prove evolution wrong. Many have tried, why not, they would be the biggest scientist in the world if they could prove evolution wrong, but they havent. I think that you need to read a middle school science book, unlike the bible, textbooks have these little things called evidence and proofs that you obviously dont know about

  • @Masonictoaster9 Ding! Ding! Ding! Craziest comment yet! What a lunatic, you actually think that supernatural entities have been filmed. Bigfoot is more likely to be filmed. Spirit of war, nothing has more human blood on its hands than religions, and christianity has the most in the last 2000 years. The bible is just a bunch of fairy tales for the unintellegent and delusional.

  • Its more like a war of religion being against science. The hypocrites make use of science every day yet wish to go against it.

  • @Masonictoaster9 "Look up "Johns drawing provokes ufo" to see one of these." I did look this up and my only conclusion is that either you're a troll fucking with people or you're dumb/mentally unstable. Not trying to be mean but when I see somebody go outside and film a plane for six minutes and think its something supernatural I call into question the need to "debate" sure a person. That was painful.

  • @Masonictoaster9 I think my irony meter just blew up...

  • @CriticalAtheist Evolution is a fairy tale with the agent of time as the fairy.

  • @CriticalAtheist Actually you base your intellectual discussion on misconceptions and flat out errors. We'll see who goes down - because it will be you.

  • Christians get criticized about the serpent in the Bible. Little do these condemning secularists know that the serpent is a supernatural entity and such entities have been filmed. Look up "Johns drawing provokes ufo" to see one of these. The Bible is light years ahead of Secularists who learn step by step by screwing up and coming up with new theories, but are never wrong! I've personally seen the supernatural stuff from the Bible. Non Christians are the spirit of war.
