Matthew Sturdy ND Media Film and TV Production TV Ident
Warwickshire School of Art, Leamington Centre
My name is Matthew Sturdy, and Im currently in my second year at Warwickshire College studying ND Media Production.
The course is a wonderful experience and a great introduction into filmmaking for those who had never attempted it before. As one such student, I found the tutors welcoming and joyous to work with, with the facilities on offer very exciting.
The Ident was created for the Sky Movies: Sci-fi and Horror channel. The spaceship was created entirely in after effects, and was inspired by the existing logo for the channel created by Sky. Its movements where animated in After Effects, and were a homage, if anything, to the movements of flies and birds. The jittery, unsure feel of the movements fit the content well. Spaceships and aliens are constantly being sought out and when spotted ogled at, so it made sense that they would be slightly timid when reacting to an audience. The spotlight illuminating the spaceship was supposed to enhance this feel.
The piece was great fun to create. When ideas starting developing, it became really exciting to evolve with the project and allow myself to express artistically.
