Easter Island

In February 2005 International Help Fund Australia and its partners sought the competencies of the Tahitian Waste Management Department, the Société Environnement Polynésienne (SEP), to design a waste management program for its neighbor, Easter Island. The first step in this agreement was to deliver 9 containers for the storage of used recreational batteries, 6 containers for the use of used motor oil, and 3 containers for the storage of car batteries. IHFA co-produced 2 TV commercials in both Rapa Nui and Spanish for Rapa Nui TV as part of the public information campaign. Also produced were posters and brochures in both Rapa Nui and Spanish. To keep costs down, the information campaign was based on the Tahitian version adapted to specificities of Easter Island. On 2006, the Société Environnement Polynésienne (SEP), trained the Easter Island Waste Management Department. Significant Progress has been made since.

International Help Fund Australia is a non-sectarian independent, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization. We focus on assistance to Pacific Island Countries and Territories in the areas of environment, health, education, water sanitation and supply, economic sustainability and cultural preservation, and direct aid to the socially disadvantaged. • I think its a beautiful film. It certainly doesn't make the Island look "not nice" - it looks amazing. The sad truth is that there is a waste management problem on the island and IHFA does a lot of good work to help the islanders in their quest for sustainability. If visitors to this incredible island are aware of this issue - they can be part of the solution and not add to the problems.

  • I feel kind of offended that none of the beautiful houses that were built were shown, this vide singled out some of the worst houses. Just saying you shouldn't give people that haven't been to this beautiful island the idea that its not nice and that it has waste problems
