Dept. of national defence are on the ground in Newfoundland helping with the relief effort of rebuilding roads, reconnecting isolated communites, and providing clean drinking water and other needs.

UPDATE:
Canadian Goverment extends the food fishery for 2 weeks for those that lost there frozen fish due to Hurricane IGOR.

Been awhile since the east coast of the island recieved a good storm, IGOR certinally hit us hard, VERY HARD! Marystown and Clarenville have declared a state of Emergency and parts of the trans canada highway has been cut off and now closed, Harbour Mille has been cut off from the rest of the island due too there only highway in and out of the community has been washed away!
In total, the Burin area got as mich as 250mm of rain, while the St.Johns area got 150mm, the wind gusts have reached 148.9kph and many trees have been knocked down, as well as wide spread power outages.

Northerly winds are forecast to gust between 100 and 150 km/h tonight as hurricane igor moves to the northeast.

This is a warning that potentially damaging winds are expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

Post tropical storm igor is presently located approximately 70 kilometres northeast of the Avalon Peninsula and is forecast tracks northeastward across the funk island banks tonight.

Winds gusting 100 to 150 km/h are forecast for the southeast and northeast coasts and Avalon Peninsula this evening. As a result tropical storm warnings are in effect for these areas as well as a hurricane watch. Large tree branches and falling trees could lead to downed utility lines and property damage.

In addition long period 6 to 8 meter swells are affecting the southern-facing coastlines of Newfoundland. These swells will persist and gradually grow during tonight. Elevated water levels accompanied by high waves and pounding surf will develop along the northeast coast this evening and along the Northeastern Avalon Peninsula overnight. These elevated waters levels will continue to move southward to affect Placentia Bay by Wednesday morning.
