Vinny Castronovo One Shot - One More Try

-KERRi POV-

I felt as I pushed the water behind me, one stroke at a time. I caught up to her, we started going neck at neck. I looked up a little, and saw the wall close in front of me and I started to kick faster and faster. Before I could reach the wall, I heard the buzzer sound... Dang it. I pressed my two hands against the wall a second later, placing second to Mary Winters. The top swimmer against the team were competing. Every time I placed second to her. Every time. I told myself I would at least place first today. One race is all I need. I pushed on the deck and pulled myself out of the water. My coach Sophie walked over to me and gave me a pat on the back, "Youll get her. You have it in you Kerri" I nodded, out of breath. "Your Freestlye is in 45 min, I'll get you soon" She said to me one last time. I thanked her and started walking to the others on my team bench. It was freezing cold, drops of water dripping from my suit and my goggles on the top of my head. When I reached the bench, my team mates got up and patted my on the back, saying it was okay and I would get it next time. I thanked them quickly and started to walk the other way looking for a towel. As I made my way closer to my bag, I felt as a piece of cloth was slung over my shoulders. It was a towel. I turned around and saw my best friend, Vinny, standing there with a smile on his face. "I lost, again..." I said to him, looking down towards the concrete floor. He lifted my chin and told me 4 simple words, "Give it another try." I smiled at him like I always did. He said that to me after every race. He got me to keep swimming and keep competing. His words always stuck in my head. Hes my inspiration. Yeah, so maybe I have a bit of a crush on him but I don't want to ruin our friendship. I smiled and nodded at him, "I will don't worry" His big smile appeared almost instantly, revealing his braces. He slung his arm around my shoulder, I felt my arm melt a bit from his touch. He brought me to behind the bleachers and he started talking to me about a girl. He said so many things about her, she was beautiful, funny, smart, amazing, he said she was absolutely GRAND... My heart shattered. I wish i was that girl, I'm not good enough for him... After half an hour of him talking about this girl, Sophie poked her head around and said, "Come on Kerri, lets go, time for the race." I nodded and got up and walked towards her. "Good luck Kerri, and remember, no matter what happens, I still and always will love you..." I heard Vinny say. Yeah only love me as a friend... a sister... "You're that girl Kerri..." I heard, a smile quickly grew across my face. I turned back to him, and made a heart with my hands. He smiled and made the heart back. Sophie lead me to the starters block, and Mary was next to me. I saw as Vinny took a seat in the front bleacher on the side i was on, and I pulled my goggles down to my eyes. He mouthed, "Give it your best try" and smiled. I smiled back to him then got into starters position. The gun fired and I dove in, it felt perfect. I kicked down and brought my arms forward one at a time, pushing the water behind me. I ignored the swimmers around me and only focused on the wall in front of me. Within seconds, I got a few feet away and turned and pushed off the wall and set back towards the finish. I kicked harder and used everything I had in me to make it. The water rushed past me, and I moved my arm forward and I felt the wall. I sputtered up, and I looked to see Mary behind me as a buzzer sounded. Wholyy.. I finally won! I pushed down on the deck and pulled myself out of the water. Sophie, my teamates, and Vinny came running over to me and they covered me in hugs and care. Vinny then pulled me aside and said, "I told you give you one more try, and you Kerri, did a GRANDerific job," he said with a smile before he leaned in and kissed me. I kissed back and felt the fireworks popping. He pulled away, "Be my girlfriend Kerri, please." I smiled and kissed him again. "Of course Vinny" and we intertwined our fingers and it became the best moment of my life.
