This Japanese delicacy known as odori-don or "dancing squid rice bowl" is a variation on traditional squid sashimi and uses soy sauce to create the disturbing illusion of bringing a dead squid back to life. The dish comes with the head cut into small sashimi slices and the rest joins as a side plate once the "performance" is complete. This controversial method of preparing sashimi while it's still alive is known as ikizukuri, and is banned in Australia.
Of course, the dish is definitely not for everyone and will probably get us into no end of trouble should alien squid monsters ever decide to invade planet Earth like in a manga movie.

  • You guys realize the only reason any of you are upset is because you're not used to seeing this happen live. If you were to spend time looking at your food, you would see farmers raising the cattle, taking them to the factory where they are euthanized, chopped up, ground up, frozen, packaged, cooked, and placed on your plate.

These people (may even by Americans at a sushi bar) are no more sadistic than we are. The only difference is they know how purely fresh their food is compared to ours.

  • When i die.... funnel some soy sauce up my ass and get the camcorder because you would win 100,000 on AFV

  • @slushymermaid666 its the salt in the soy sauce.

I got to this vid via another where some guys were salting skinned frogs legs and getting a similar effect.

    pretty cool stuff :)

my guess is that its related to the electrical conductivity/generation effects of salt in water (water in this case being provided by the flesh) causes the muscles to twitch.

  • @tsohgallik ... It's already dead. Notice the top of its head. The muscles in the squid still respond to stimuli after death; touch sets it off and something in the soy sauce makes them spasm more intensely.

  • This is f**king cruelty WTF is wrong with you. At least have the sympathy to kill it instead of torturing it!

  • @creamiercorn holy shit that was hilarious

  • @sirbighi mate, you make me hungry. really, the nature doesnt care about animals eating each other, why shall i care about eating them?

  • dude..if its moving...it aint dead!

  • itadakimasu!

  • This is a squid. .. brain intact. .. they remove a organ but not the brain to make it a zombie.. but yes, its alive, brain intact. I read it on the original video.

  • the octopus has been long dead. The salt in the soy sauce is making the nerves in the octopus's body act up. the octopus is dead.
