Frank Wakefield plays Black Mountain Rag in his kitchen, March 24, 2007. Frank plays this tune so fast that he breaks the sound barrier at the end. Frank uses special tunings for this song. The G strings and D strings are in standard tuning. The two A strings are in a special tuning - go to the fifth fret on the D string and mash it down and hit that note and tune the two A strings in unison to that note. Each of the E strings is in a separate special tuning. To tune one E string mash down the 4th fret on the A string and hit that note and tune the one E string in unison with that note. To tune the other E string mash down the 7th fret on the A string and play that note and tune the other E string in unison with that note.
I can't believe that Gibson has not made a Wakefield signature series mandolin in honor of Frank. Shame on them.
