Amanda is in her new office reading over the conclusion of her story about Video Match, the dating service she investigated that led to her and Evan being kidnapped. Meanwhile, Julie Ann shows her fiance Detective Rick Graham the watch that Mac and Rachel gave her as a going away present. Rick says he has the perfect thing to go with it, and produces a little velvet box containing Julie Ann's engagement ring. She tells Rick how beautiful the ring is and kisses him. They are interrupted by a Florence MacLaine, better known as Auntie Rose, the head of Video Match, who is there to see Amanda. However, Julie Ann and Rick are distracted first by Mac, who informs Julie Ann of the switch in offices for Amanda, and then the arrival of Sam, who learns that Julie Ann is being transferred to San Francisco and tells her they're going to miss her, and then says he's looking for Amanda and she's not at her desk and learns about his wife's new office assignment. While Mac and Sam are talking to Rick and Julie Ann, Auntie Rose finds her way to Amanda's new office and confronts her about the story she's working on, saying that she's not going to let Amanda build her professional reputation by destroying the business Auntie Rose has worked to build, and that no one will ever see the result of Amanda's hard work. When Amanda asks what that's supposed to mean, Auntie Rose reaches inside her purse...which is when Sam comes in and sees the head of Video Match standing toe to toe with Amanda and reaching inside her purse. Thinking she's going for a weapon, Sam charges Auntie Rose, but she was only reaching for an injunction. Mac comes rushing in next, with Rick Graham on his heels. Sam is angry that Auntie Rose is threatening his wife. Amanda explains who she is. Mac tells Auntie Rose to remind her lawyer of the First Amendment and tell him Mac welcomes the opportunity to meet him in court. Sam is dismayed at Mac's reaction. Detective Graham escorts Auntie Rose out of Amanda's office and the building. Sam doesn't think the article should be published, but Amanda says it's got to be published. Evan comes rushing in after seeing Detective Graham dragging Auntie Rose through the lobby. Sam says that she was threatening Amanda. Amanda disagrees, saying Auntie Rose was just trying to intimidate her. "Excuse me, is there a difference?" Sam asks in disbelief. Evan asks what Auntie Rose was trying to do, and Amanda says it was just a phony lawsuit. Sam asks what if that's not the end of it; what if she's involved in the syndicates? Amanda says then they'll find out. The only way to stop these people is to speak up. Evan says they can't let Auntie Rose get away with this. Sam tells Evan to stay out of this. Mac speaks up then, saying he appreciates Sam's concern, but Mac thinks Amanda is right. She has worked too hard and at too great a personal risk to ask her to trash this article now. Then Mac tells the trio about the meeting about the anniversary celebration and invites Sam to sit in on it. But Sam isn't letting the Auntie Rose issue go and he follows Mac out after telling Amanda that after everything that has happened, this is insane. Amanda tells Evan that Sam doesn't understand. Sam tells Mac that Auntie Rose is off her rocker. Mac tells Sam that Amanda is right, and the press has a responsibility to the public. Frustrated, Sam tells Mac to stop talking to him like a publisher and reminds Mac that Amanda is his daughter. Mac replies that he ruined one daughter by being too protective, and he's not going to make that mistake with Amanda. Sam walks off after that.

In the lobby, Iris sees Michael and learns that he talked to Mac on her behalf after all. She asks him what made him change his mind, and Michael replies that Mac looked like he was in an awful lot of pain. Iris asks if Michael thinks it had any effect on his decision, and Michael says no, he doesn't think so. Iris thanks Michael for trying anyway; it's her fault, she brought it all on herself. Michael offers to carry boxes or drive Iris home, but Iris reminds him that she told him if he spoke to Mac for her, that would be the last thing she'd ask of him, and she intends to abide by her promise, and then she kisses him quickly and he tells her goodbye.
