It doesn't really have a strict definition. It's not an acronym if thats what you mean :D It's another word for amateur radio.

I hope to meet you on the air sometime. If you can give me some sort of schedule, that would be great. I should be back on by then, end of the month or so. I have to put my dipole back up. How do you like your FT-897d? I'm thinking about getting one.

She's using a Yaesu FT-897D. Don't know about the power or the antenna.

It appears to be a Heil Goldline microphone. Also, the yellow color on the connector at the back of the microphone signifies a Yaesu adapter, and I know she is using a Yaesu FT-897 from this video and her others.
