This story comes from the woman caught in adultery the time was lst century in their time they lived by Roman law and the pharasees rewrote the laws of moses 613 laws. I recently heard a message by Joseph Prince who says there was no sand in front of the temple but it is a comparison between when god wrote on the tablets of stone for the people and jesus was writing on the stones the law of moses

Actually, the Bible doesn't say WHAT Jesus did in the sand - the original word can mean EITHER to write or to draw. I have a book by Micheal Card, called Scribbling in the Sand, and what he's pointing out in the song is the power of art - instead of responding to the charged situation, he paused the moment. He knelt down. And he drew. He forced the energy of the situation to change by a simple action, and it turned the responses of the people there.
Listen to the song again. :)

Jesus rescued her from CIVIL law - yet he condemned her MORALS - "Go, and sin no more" assumes that she was sinning. Execution was not called for because she was "taken in the act", yet they did not bring the male defendand with her. Some commentators speculate that Jesus may have been scribbling the names of all the men who had been with this woman - including some of the names of her hypocritical accusers. Anyway, Jesus was NOT saying that civil laws can never punish adultery!

@RenascentRyan Ah. Thanks.

@EliasGarvey The Bible does not say what he scribbled in the sand, but a popular thought is that He put their sins before them. It's a mystery until we are with Him!

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of michael card but the lyrics and music of this song are absolutely amazing!!! Jesus wrote in the sand to take the attention off the woman who the pharisees condemned and put it onto him...the fact that Jesus was the only one there who could cast a stone but he didnt is absolutely awesome!!!

The man is so gifted it scares me.
in a good way !!!
